To provide an independent technical review of civil, structural, and architectural design deliverables produced by the contractor or design consultant for data center facilities. The CSA Designer acts on behalf of the PMC to verify that submitted designs are technically sound, code-compliant, constructable, and fully aligned with the project brief, employer’s requirements, and applicable standards – across all stages from concept through Issued for Construction
·
Review and technically assess CSA design submissions across all stages
from concept, schematic, detailed design, and Issued for Construction (IFC) to Shop Drawings and issue structured, actionable review comments within
agreed turnaround times.
·
Evaluate structural design packages including foundation designs, slab
and framing systems, steel and concrete structures, and connection details;
verify structural calculations for accuracy, code compliance, and adequacy for
the data center loading conditions including raised floor loads, equipment
weights, and seismic requirements.
·
Assess architectural design submissions including floor plans,
elevations, sections, room data sheets, facade details, internal finishes
schedules, and raised floor layouts; confirm alignment with the functional
brief and space programming requirements.
·
Review civil design packages covering site grading, drainage, external
works, retaining structures, and utility trench layouts for technical soundness
and coordination with building footprints and site infrastructure.
·
Verify that structural and architectural designs adequately accommodate
MEP and ICT/ELV requirements: plant room configurations, equipment pads and
loadings, structural penetrations, cable tray support provisions, and access
routes.
·
Check CSA design coordination across all disciplines, identify interface
gaps, missing structural provisions for MEP equipment, and inconsistencies
between architectural and structural packages.
·
Review BIM models and coordination reports submitted by the contractor;
verify that CSA elements are modelled to the required LOD, and confirm clash
detection has been carried out and resolved prior to IFC issue.
·
Track all open review comments, assess the adequacy of contractor
responses and resubmissions, and maintain a live register of outstanding and
closed technical issues.
·
Attend design review meetings, design coordination workshops, and BIM
sessions as the PMO’s CSA technical representative; prepare and issue meeting
minutes and action trackers.
Support
the PMO team during construction by reviewing CSA shop drawings, material
submittals, method statements, and inspection and test plans; raise
non-conformance records for any deviations from the approved IFC design.
Position
KPIs
·
Design review comments issued within the agreed turnaround period for
all submissions.
·
Completeness and technical quality of review comments: comments are
specific, referenced to applicable standards or project documents, and free
from ambiguity.
·
Close-out rate of open review comments: contractor responses reviewed
and resolved within agreed timeframes.
·
Zero critical CSA design errors reaching site: issues identified and
resolved at design stage before construction begins.
Conformance
of reviewed designs with the project brief, Employer’s Requirements, and
applicable standards.
·
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or
Architecture.
·
Minimum 8–12 years of engineering or design experience in CSA
disciplines, with a demonstrated track record in design on consultancy-side
engagements for data centres or mission-critical facilities.
·
Strong technical capability in structural analysis and design, with the
ability to interrogate calculation packages produced using ETABS, STAAD.Pro,
SAP2000, or equivalent tools and verify the design assumptions and results.
·
Sound knowledge of international design codes (EN 1990–1994, EN
1997–1998), BS standards, and relevant ISO frameworks.
·
Good understanding of data center structural and architectural
requirements including raised floor systems, high equipment floor loadings,
seismic considerations, and facade systems.
·
Working knowledge of BIM coordination processes (Revit, Navisworks)
sufficient to review federated models and assess LOD compliance.
·
Strong written communication skills; able to produce clear,
well-referenced review comment schedules and technical correspondence.
